Confusion surrounds the trial of three men for the trial of Anna Politkovskya; it has been closed to the public and delayed (Al-Jazeera). Russian bloggers are exercised by the participation of one of the jurors in a radio programme last week, in defiance of the law. The juror, Evgeni Kolesov, complained that the judge's decision to close the trial to the press was not taken at the jurors' request, which contradicted the explanation given by the judge himself (Polit.ru, in Russian).

Big cuts have been made to the BBC Russian Service radio broadcasts. All "analytical and cultural features" have gone (Moscow Times). That would include Zinovy Zinik's excellent West End, in which I sometimes took part.
